What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology accesses information directly from your body and subconscious mind. A skilled kinesiologist will reveal the stress that underlies your symptoms, giving you a full holistic picture of what’s going on.  Kinesiologists do this by testing your muscles.  This is not a muscle strength test per say, but rather involves simply reading the subtle changes that occur in muscle tension when a stress is present.  This very easy (and super cool) technique allows us to discover what the driving forces are behind what’s going on for you…… and how best to address them. This information comes directly from your body, making kinesiology completely patient-centric and therefore very powerful at creating change.

Every body express itself uniquely. Kinesiology verbalises what your symptoms are crying out in trying to tell you. It could be that you have chronic pain that relates to a trauma you don’t realise you are holding onto. It could be that you have toxins in your body that you are unaware of, that are causing some neurological challenges (memory issues, balance issues, motor co-ordination issues). For kids it could be that they have retained reflexes that have them struggling with learning challenges, sensory issues, poor posture, bed wetting, thumb sucking or perhaps lacking of simple social cues.

This ability to ask “whats beneath the surface” makes kinesiology a great starting point in figuring out how to help you or your little one become a happier and healthier version of themselves.

Kinesiology for kids

I love working with kids. They are so open and honest and children tend to respond exceptionally well to kinesiology.  I see kids for so many different reasons, including:

  • Learning difficulties
  • Sleep issues
  • Bedwetting
  • Anxiety
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Issues “fitting in”
  • ASD related issues
  • Emotional outbursts
  • Fussy eating
  • Help processing “big” emotions
  • Tummy pain
  • School refusal
  • Self harm
  • Anger/rage
  • Co-ordination issues
  • Unusual fears

If your child is experiencing any of these, kinesiology can help. We will start by assessing their primitive reflexes and nervous system. (See nervous system work). It could just be that your child needs their reflexes ‘integrated”.  See REFLEXES for more information.

Kinesiology is tailored to your child’s individual needs, therefore no two kinesiology sessions are the exact same. I work with kids of all ages. If a child is too young to muscle test, we have alternative ways to do this.  With all children 16 years or younger, a parent or guardian must be present in the session with us.

The real goal of any Kinesiology session is to identify the bottom line causes of any imbalance and then resolve it. The imbalance may be nutritional, emotional, neurological, structural, psychological or even energetic.

Kinesiology for “Spirited Kids” or Neuro-Diverse Kids

Neuro-diversity is SUCH a broad term. It can be quite confronting being told that you or your loved one are neuro-a-typical.  Especially if it’s all new to you.  Or perhaps you don’t have a “diagnosis” yet, but your little one is struggling in a few areas (socially, academically or emotionally).  In many cases, a diagnosis is not necessary. So many parents I talk to tell me they just have a “gut sense” that something is not quite right.  It could be some subtle things that simple nag at you. Or maybe it’s in certain situations that you or your little one just get “out of sorts”.   I have 15 years of experience with this, with my own kids.  It’s no longer confronting for me. But that is what time and knowledge does….they help us understand.  And with understanding comes acceptance, new strategies and believe it or not, some really good times.
In my clinic I see and help kids with the following:
  • ADD – Attention Deficit Disorder
  • GAD  – Generalised Anxiety Disorder
  • ODD – Oppositional Defiance Disorder
  • OCD – Obsessive compulsive Disorder
  • ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • SPD – Sensory Processing Disorder
  • GDD – Global Developmental Delay
All of the above can manifest themselves as temper tantrums, school refusal, depression, fussybehavior – to name only a few signs.

I firmly believe there is no such thing as a badly behaved child. I believe children behave in certain ways only to deal with things they are struggling with. With the right support, they can work through WHY they behave that way and ultimately be much happier little humans.

In this video…..

…the UK based “Functional Kinesiology” team explains Kinesiology very simply in a few quick minutes. I love not only her explanation but her accent too. Enjoy!

Your body speaks, Kinesiology helps you listen
